Named after the famous California general Don Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, the city of Vallejo is an up-and-coming waterfront city with a rich history and vibrant community. The revival of the Mare Island Shipyard, a growing arts community, and its relative proximity to San Francisco (just a ferry ride away), have all contributed to Vallejo’s growing urbanite influx. Having Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and a popular shopping district hasn’t hurt its growth either.
