The city of Martinez may well be one of the Bay Area’s best-kept secrets. It is the Goldilocks of geography, with close proximity to freeways without the typical Bay Area congestion. It offers a range of outdoor recreation for all ages, from its 16 well-kept parks to its waterfront bocce courts and recently completed skate park. And while it has modernized its landscape in recent years, Martinez has preserved its historical locations and its old-fashioned, communal values.

Population: 38,402

Number of Parks: 17

Fun Fact: The Martini was first poured in Martinez in 1874 thanks to a thirsty gold miner.
